Vehicle registration and dealer services in Luxembourg

LBO Automobile handles vehicle registration in Luxembourg for individuals and businesses, including non-residents under specific conditions. New vehicles, used vehicles, prestige and collectible cars: we know the file specificities of each segment. For collectors, we coordinate registration with the structuring of holding via the LBO Société civile division, when this approach is relevant.

Why LBO Automobile

  • 01

    Recognised Luxembourg dealer

Active dealer status with the SNCA (Société Nationale de Circulation Automobile) since 2010. Direct access to the procedures, no intermediary.

  • 02

    Civil-law company synergy

For collectors, holding via a société civile is often the right structure. We coordinate registration and structuring in a single process, instead of fragmenting providers.

  • 03

    Advisory on legal structures

We do not just register: we recommend the right legal structure (individual holding, civil-law company, SARL, leasing) for each context.

What we do

  • New vehicle registration

Coordination with the dealer, technical inspection, registration application with the SNCA, plates, registration card. Direct delivery or pickup at our site.

  • Used vehicle registration

Sale-purchase deed, technical inspection, ownership transfer, registration in the buyer's name. We handle complex files (cross-border imports, succession).

  • Prestige and collectibles

Specific procedures for prestige vehicles, collector cars (over 30 years old), tax exemptions where applicable. Discretion guaranteed.

  • Legal structures advisory

Recommendation of Luxembourg civil-law company structure for asset holding of a collection, in synergy with the LBO Société civile division.

  • Sales mandate

For exceptional vehicles, we represent sellers vis-à-vis qualified buyers in our network, including internationally.

Who it's for

What we do not do

  • No repair or maintenance workshop (referral to recognised Luxembourg partner garages)
  • No retail showroom — our activity is administrative and structuring, not point-of-sale
  • No insurance brokerage in-house (we coordinate with the client's chosen broker)

Frequently asked questions

Les interrogations qui reviennent souvent sur LBO Automobile. Si la vôtre n'est pas listée, écrivez-nous.

Can a non-resident register a vehicle in Luxembourg?

Yes, under specific conditions: holding via a Luxembourg structure (SARL, civil-law company), or proof of regular presence in the country. We assess feasibility on a case-by-case basis and direct clients toward the appropriate structuring if registration in the individual name is not possible.

What is the timeline for registering a vehicle?

5 to 10 business days for a standard file (new or used vehicle already in Luxembourg). 3 to 6 weeks for an import from another EU country, the time required for European compliance and technical inspection. We deliberately do not promise immediate turnaround times: each file requires documentary rigour.

What about VAT and registration tax?

VAT is paid in the country of final destination of the vehicle. For an intra-EU acquisition, we coordinate the customs declaration. Luxembourg also applies a one-off registration tax based on CO2 emissions. We provide a clear cost estimate before launching the procedures.

Can the collectible car holding be structured through a civil-law company?

Yes, and this is often the right approach for collectors. The Luxembourg civil-law company allows succession-friendly holding of a vehicle collection, manages capital gains in a controlled manner, and protects the assets from personal hazards. We coordinate registration and structuring in synergy with the LBO Société civile division.

Do you handle long-term leasing or financing?

We do not subscribe leasing contracts ourselves, but we coordinate with Luxembourg leasing companies for clients who choose this approach. For fleet management beyond a few vehicles, the LBO Fleet division is the appropriate point of entry.

What documents are needed for a registration file?

Standard: copy of the buyer's ID, vehicle title (CIV) or sale-purchase deed, proof of insurance, valid technical inspection. For non-residents: proof of Luxembourg holding structure. We send the precise checklist as soon as the file is opened, to avoid back-and-forth.
